Are leaders born that way?

This Sunday we're starting a five-week series on "having the heart".  The first topic is "Having the Heart of a Leader".  We're looking at Acts 4:1-22 which gives the account of Peter and John standing before the Sanhedrin as leaders of the Church.

This question came to mind:  Are leaders born that way?

It's a great question that I have often asked before and have wrestled with for a long time.

I mean Peter obviously had a 'leadership essence' prior to the day of Pentecost.  Was he a born leader who was empowered by the Holy Spirit or was he a schlep that only became a leader once he was discipled by Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit?  In other words, can leadership be taught?

Good stuff.  Looking forward to Sunday!

  1. Regardless of whether one is a born leader or not, the life yielded to the Holy Spirit is always so much more powerful than the life lived "my way".

The Holy Spirit can take the most timid person and make them a very dynamic (think of the root word) leader (verses like "for we are not filled with a spirit of timidity, but of power" and "but you shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you" come to mind.
